In his new role, Mudd - a seasoned executive with extensive leadership experience in sustainable aquaculture - will spearhead a strategic fundraise to fuel Offshore Shellfish's ambitious expansion plans. With a proven track record in enhancing business operations and management systems, he will also oversee improvements to ensure the company remains at the forefront of sustainable aquaculture.

Mudd has gathered a wealth of experience throughout his career, including during his most recent role as chief operating officer at Brilliant Planet, an innovator in algae-based environmental solutions, where he managed the strategic and operational development of a pioneering ocean-based carbon removal enterprise. In this role he successfully drove the transition from research-focussed operations to commercial scalability, secured key partnerships with industry leaders, and led high-value projects to enhance production.

Previously, Mudd served as the CEO of FirstWave Group’s East Africa tilapia venture Yalelo Uganda, where he contributed to the establishment of Africa’s fastest-growing aquaculture business. Under his leadership, Yalelo Uganda established state-of-the-art aquaculture facilities, growing from a greenfield site to 700 tonnes of monthly production in three years, and transformed the way consumers accessed farmed fish across East Africa.

"We are delighted to welcome Piers to our team. His leadership experience, deep understanding of the aquaculture sector, and proven ability to drive transformative growth make him the perfect addition as we embark on the next phase of our company’s evolution,” said John Holmyard, managing director of Offshore Shellfish, in a press release.

As Offshore continues to lead the way in sustainable seafood production, Mudd’s appointment marks a significant milestone in the company’s mission to scale its impact and champion the benefits of regenerative aquaculture.

"I am really excited to join Offshore Shellfish at such a dynamic time in the company’s journey. Offshore Shellfish has set the benchmark in sustainable mussel production, and I look forward to contributing to its growth and helping it achieve its full potential as a leader in regenerative aquaculture," Mudd concluded.
