The keenly contested annual awards – featuring categories for both native and Pacific oysters, as well as mussels – were presented at this week’s Association of Scottish Shellfish Growers’ annual conference in Oban.

The award for the tastiest native oyster was presented to Judith and Angus Vajk of Caledonian Oysters, who pipped Gerard Macdonald, of Isle of Barra Oysters, to the post.

The prize for the best mussel was presented to Douglas Wilson and Cameron Maclean, from Mull-based Inverlussa Mussels.

And the prize for the best Pacific oyster – which tends to be the most keenly-fought category – went to Gordon Turnbull, from Isle of Mull Oysters, closely followed by John Barrington, of Creran Oysters.
