SustainED, launched in 2024, is an educational programme led by SSP and the National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA) whose goal is to strengthen the efficiency and sustainability of Ecuador’s shrimp industry. Over 150 experts, academics, and industry leaders attended this edition, titled “Nutritional Innovation: How to maximise feed efficiency at every stage of shrimp farming.”
Throughout the event, participants shared strategies, technological advancements and discussed practical case studies. It was demonstrated how optimised nutrition can improve operational efficiency to reduce production costs. and enhance the environmental performance of shrimp farming.
Pamela Nath, director of the SSP, said in a press release: "Feed is one of the main factors determining the environmental impact of shrimp farming. But it is also an area where real solutions already exist that can make a significant difference. At SSP, we work to highlight those solutions and make them accessible to those who want to take the next step."
Executive president of the CNA, José Antonio Camposano, added: "SustainED represents a key platform for strengthening the shrimp sector by bringing together producers, technicians, and leaders from across the value chain around a shared goal. These types of spaces allow us to increase access to knowledge and promote a shared vision of sustainability, understanding that by raising farming standards, we are also increasing the value and competitiveness of the entire industry."
The event's agenda included six technical sessions that provided a comprehensive perspective on the benefits of proper nutrition at each stage of the farming cycle. Topics covered included fundamentals of nutrition, responsible feed formulations, feeding technologies, new ingredient sources, larval nutrition, and regulatory frameworks for input usage.
