Designed to foster community engagement and promote sustainable practices, the celebration will showcase the latest advancements in the fisheries and aquaculture sector alongside interactive and educational activities for the public.
Highlights of the festival include a technology exhibition, live farmed fish sales, a seafood expo, and a buyer-seller meet facilitating direct trade connections between producers and buyers. Entrepreneurs will have opportunities to network during dedicated sessions, while workshops and training programs aim to empower stakeholders with knowledge of modern fisheries practices.
Visitors to the open house can explore the CMFRI’s museum, marine ornamental aquarium, and state-of-the-art laboratories, as well as marvel at displays highlighting the wonders of marine life. The seafood expo, featuring a variety of dishes prepared from fish, shrimp, crab, shellfish, and Lakshadweep specialties, is expected to be a crowd favourite.
The event is also an opportunity for fish farmers and producer organisations to showcase value-added fish products, connecting them to wider markets and promoting innovative approaches to seafood production.
"The primary objective of the Foundation Day celebration is to reach out to the stakeholders and the public, create community awareness on fisheries technologies and foster a connection between marine researchers and the public," said CMFRI Director Dr Grinson George, in a press release.
"Every year, CMFRI’s Foundation Day is celebrated with an open house attracting students and the general public to the institute. This year the fish festival will add a unique dimension to the celebration, offering a diverse range of activities, including knowledge sharing, networking opportunities, explorations of seafood culinary delights, and access to farm-fresh products," he concluded.
