Quidnet Ventures announced the first investment from Quidnet Ventures Fund II, leading the pre-seed capital raise of Ocean Intelligence, the marine technology company founded by Cawthron Institute and Oceanum. The raise provides Ocean Intelligence with a 24-month operating runway to accelerate product development, enter the Australian market, and continue delivering critical environmental forecasting and operational intelligence for the aquaculture, ports, and marine monitoring sectors.
Ocean Intelligence’s modular SaaS platform consolidates real-time marine environmental data into a single operating picture, helping marine operators detect threats such as harmful algal blooms, anticipate storm events, monitor farm conditions remotely, and make better time-critical decisions. The platform serves the aquaculture, port operations, and environmental monitoring sectors, with mussel and oyster operations across New Zealand already using it and expansion planned into Australia.
“Ocean Intelligence is exactly the kind of company Fund II was created to back – world-class New Zealand science, commercialised by an exceptional team, solving a global problem,” said Mark Bregman, founder and managing partner of Quidnet Ventures. “Marine operators everywhere are drowning in disconnected data feeds while making time-critical decisions about safety, sustainability, and production. Ocean Intelligence turns that flood of data into a clear operating picture. We are proud to lead this round and to partner with two of New Zealand’s finest ocean science organisations.”
“Closing our pre-seed round is a significant milestone for Ocean Intelligence,” said Joel Bowater, chief executive officer of Ocean Intelligence. “It gives us the runway to scale the platform, deepen our work with aquaculture and port customers, and take New Zealand ocean science to the world – starting with Australia. On behalf of our founders, Cawthron Institute and Oceanum, we extend a huge thank you to our investors – Quidnet Ventures and AIP investors Andrea and Guido Neitzer – for their partnership and shared vision for the platform’s future.”
