The two farms are Tarmvikodden and Buksevika in Vest-Agder County in Norway.
"Marine Harvest is committed to have all our farms ASC-certified within 2020. This is an important first step, but we still have a lot of work ahead of us. As a partner of Global Salmon Initiative, we have a clear goal of producing more seafood for a growing world population while minimizing our environmental footprint," said CEO Alf-Helge Aarskog.
Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) is an independent non-profit organisation that ASC aims to be the world's leading certification and labeling programme for responsibly farmed seafood.
The ASC is a global organization working with aquaculture producers, seafood processors, retail and foodservice companies, scientists, conservation groups and the public to promote social and environmental conditions in the seafood industry.
"We see a much greater role for seafood in the global food production in the future, We constantly strive to improve. It is very motivating that 70 per cent of the global salmon industry is committed to ASC-certify all salmon production," said Mr Aarskog.
DNV GL has been responsible for the certification process.
"As one of the first companies certified to ASC Salmon, Marine Harvest is one of the frontrunners for sustainable seafood. The seafood farming industry plays a key role in the world's food production, a role that will be increasingly important going forward.
