Organised by the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) and Ecuador’s National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA), it will be the first edition of the new sustainability forum, Race to the Top.

The event, held at the Guayaquil Convention Center, is set to contain four sections – focused on governance, environmental, social and economic topics – and will feature 15 lectures, panels and success stories from Ecuador’s shrimp industry, with more than 35 internationally and nationally renowned speakers.

As Pamela Nath, SSP director, explains: “At SSP, we aim to raise industry standards and lead by example, inspiring others to join our efforts. Ecuadorian producers have already proven that it is possible to produce shrimp of the highest quality in a way that is safe for both people and the environment. This journey, which we call Race to the Top, has been shaped by commitment, discipline, and strategy, and this is the message we want to convey to stakeholders in our industry and to those from other sectors who will join us during this forum.”

Featured speakers will be representing organisations including the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), BASF, BioMar, Biolan, Conservation International (CI), Cofimar, Corporación Lanec, Earthworm Foundation, Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI), GPS Group, Grupo Almar, Houdek, dsm-firmenich, MSD Animal Health, Nicovita, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Omarsa, Skretting, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), The Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH), Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

“Ecuador has established itself as a leader in the global shrimp industry thanks to its commitment to innovation and sustainability. Race to the Top is our opportunity to reinforce this leadership and serve as a model for other industries, both in the country and abroad,” says CNA executive president, José Antonio Camposano.
