Coastal Waters in Western Pangasinan Remain Red Tide Free

In a statement, BFAR Regional Director Nestor Domenden said that fish, squids, shrimps, crabs and seashells like mussels and oysters harvested from the coastal waters of Alaminos City, Anda, Bolinao and barangay Wawa in Bani are safe for human consumption.

“This advisory is based on the results of the latest laboratory analyses and red tide monitoring conducted by the bureau and the local government units concerned, wherein shellfish samples collected from the coastal waters in the four areas were found negative of red tide toxin,” he said.

Mr Domenden also advised market inspectors, quarantine officers and administrators to demand for an auxiliary invoice or clearance for domestic fish movement for any fish and seashells that are unloaded from other cities, municipalities and provinces.

“It is a precautionary measure to ensure that seashells brought in the markets did not come from areas positive of paralytic shellfish poisoning,” said Mr Domenden.

BFAR, in coordination with the local government units, will continuously monitor the coastal waters in Western Pangasinan to safeguard public health and protect the fishery industry.
