The new floats aim to reduce pollution to the marine environment and its resources by preventing the accumulation of plastic containers and waste, which usually collects inside the floats.
Artisanal Fisheries Director of the Secretariat of Fisheries, Gladys Cedeo said that a total of 67,000 floats of 2500 cubic centimeters have been given to fishermen working with gear gillnet and longline.
He mentioned that fishermen must deliver plastic containers in exchange for the new floats.
