The European Aquaculture Society has announced the plenary speakers for its 2026 conference edition, taking place from 28 September to 1 October in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The opening plenary will bring together voices from research, industry, and digital media under the theme “Aquaculture in Global Change.”
Opening the conference on Tuesday 29 September, Jurica Jug-Dujaković, head of the biotechnology department at MJD Advisory and Development (Croatia), will deliver "Aquaculture – from Sustainability to Resilience." Drawing on a career spanning research, commercial system design and World Bank advisory work, he will examine how cultured species and production systems can adapt to climate pressures, with case studies in circular marine and freshwater models.
On Wednesday 30 September, marine biologist Larisa Lewis (SALT, UK) and digital storyteller James Sibley (SibleyAqua, USA) present "Breaking the Bubble: Making Aquaculture's Stories Go Global." Their joint session explores why so much of the sector's progress stays invisible to investors, policymakers and the public – and what changes when aquaculture stories reach millions of viewers online.
Closing the plenary programme on Thursday 1 October, Callum Howard, senior consultant at MRAG (UK), turns to policy with "Towards Net Zero by 2050 and Energy Efficient EU Aquaculture Production." Drawing on recent European Commission studies, he will map the pathways, costs and regulatory barriers facing the sector's emission-reduction targets.
The full programme and registration details are available via the Aquaculture Europe website.
