The grains and animal nutrition specialist has been more focused on aquaculture as part of its growth strategy for Asia and has begun developing a coated probiotic feed for whiteleg shrimp (L. vannamei) in China. The company is also ramping up production Ocialis functional shrimp and fish feeds as part of its expansion.
In an interview with Feed Navigator, Marc Campet, ADM’s Aquaculture Business Development Director in Asia said that the company hopes to release two to three new products under its Life Defense Category in the next year.
“The Chinese market is one of our next targets, but a coated probiotic feed product such as Vanalis Pro would have to be tailored to local shrimp requirements,” Campet said.
Campet went on to explain that India is not a target market for ADM’s functional feed business at the present time. He told Feed Navigator, “...the shrimp feed market in India is highly competitive, and farmers there have had a difficult season due to the impact of both the COVID-19 pandemic and pathogenic load. We also currently don’t have production capacity for functional shrimp feed there and exporting from our [existing] Vietnamese base to India would not make sense.”
