The talk will be delivered by Dr Ching Fong Chang, President of the National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) and co-chair of APA18, which is being organised by the Asian-Pacific Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society. The second plenary speaker is Dr Wang Qingyin, President of the China Fisheries Society, and Senior Researcher at the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute (CAFS). The title of his presentation is “Green Development: A Rational Approach to Sustainable Aquaculture”
“It is well known that China has achieved great progress in the field of aquaculture in the past three decades, but many problems or challenges are forcing the industry to search for more scientifically developing approaches for a sustainable development,” explain the event organisers. “Dr Wang hopes to take this opportunity to present some new progress in this aspect.”
Dr Wang has been working on genetics and breeding of maricultural organisms and maricultural technologies since the early 1980s, with a focus on the selective breeding and genetic improvement of new varieties with traits such as faster growth rate and disease resistance in farming shrimps. He has published over 260 peer-reviewed articles and 20 books as chief editor on breeding and mariculture relevant themes. His research on the breeding of the Huanghai No. 1 variety of shrimp (Fenneropenaeus chinensis) and healthy farming technology was awarded a National Science &Technology Invention Award of China in 2007.
