SFP is dedicated to helping businesses source seafood responsibly and works with major seafood buyers across the world.

The partnership with Lumar will involve comprehensive assessments of the sustainability of all seafood sources along with the creation of improvement projects to enhance environmental performance.

The ambition is to ensure that all seafood sources for Lumar originate from approved, certified sources or from fisheries and farms engaged in improvement projects.

Lumar is a Spanish seafood processing company that has naturally evolved from the fishing sector to become a leader in the development of natural added-value seafood products as well as internationally-recognized innovative recipes and ready-to-eat meals. The company supplies both retail and food service throughout Europe.

Announcing the partnership, Alberto Romero Bermo, Lumar’s Director of Fisheries and Sustainability, said: “After having participated with the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership in some responsible fishing and sustainability forums we feel quite comfortable and confident that this is a solid partnership that will continue to improve Lumar’s commitment to responsible and ethical sourcing at the highest level.”

Pedro Ferreiro of Sustainable Fisheries Partnership commented: “We are very excited in developing this approach in Spain with a company like Lumar. Its international fishing knowledge and background together with big concerns about ecological sustainability of fisheries will allow both, ourselves and Lumar, to engage the whole supply chain in delivering real improvements.”
