In the spring, 600 fishermen gathered in Anconcito to witness the symbolic handover of 20 outboard motors to those who were affected by the robbery at sea.

President Correa said that: "The national government, concerned about the integrity of the fisherman, continue to deliver throughout the country, tools used to control safety at sea."

The minister asked the fishermen not to become accomplices of the pirates, buying stolen motors, for "the sake of safety for fellow fishermen."
