Called Lochlander Salmon, it has been developed exclusively by SSC for premium restaurateurs, up-market hotels and top-class chefs in the USA. It is initially being introduced to the North American market, where demand for quality, traceability and Scottish provenance continues to grow. The brand focuses on the salmon’s provenance, and the company’s emphasis on sustainable farming and excellence in animal care – SSC is the first salmon producer in Scotland to be awarded Best Aquaculture Practice (BAP) certification for all its marine sites.
The brand was developed following extensive research. SSC commissioned Ipsos Mori to conduct one-to-one interviews with leading chefs in New York City who confirmed that quality, freshness and authenticity of food supply were of paramount importance. The research highlighted that chefs wanted to know more about how their food is farmed, to be proud of the food they serve and to have a brand name which communicated Scottish quality.

The Lochlander launch comes after recent statistics show that Scottish salmon exports grew by 35 percent last year, reaching a value of £600 million. The USA remains the largest market with sales worth £193 million, followed by France (£188 million) and China (£69 million).
Since 2011, SSC’s exports have more than doubled and currently account for over half of sales. Craig Anderson, chief executive of SSC, said: “We are extremely proud of Lochlander Salmon, which offers our export customers a premium quality Scottish salmon, raised for approximately three years on a rich marine diet with zero GMOs, hormones, steroids or chemical colorants in the feed.”
SSC is showcasing the brand at stand #2253 on the Scottish Pavilion at SENA.
