Stolt Sea Farm, a company specialising in land-based aquaculture, has announced the development of a food processing and research and development centre in Rianxo, A Coruña, Spain. The start of construction on the new centre was officially celebrated at a ceremony on the site last week, where the team welcomed guests including the president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, alongside key representatives from Rianxo and Galicia’s local government.
Commitment to European operations
The new facility is a key milestone in Stolt Sea Farm’s strategy to deliver exceptional customer and consumer experiences. It reinforces its commitment to continuously evolving its European processes and structure for optimal performance and customer satisfaction.
"This investment marks a key milestone in our journey to transform our business and offer the best possible experience for our customers and consumers," said Jordi Trias, president of Stolt Sea Farm, in a press release. "The Centre is not just a new facility, it is central to our vision for a future built on innovation, quality, and a deep understanding of evolving consumer expectations. It’s one of the ways we are delivering on our purpose of ensuring future generations continue to enjoy wonderful seafood."
The first phase of the project will include a 21,500 squared-metre facility and its expected to employ more than 100 skilled local workers. The modern facility will be dedicated to the packaging of whole sole and value-added sole and turbot products (VAP), while also serving as the future site for special product lines. It will have the capacity to process more than 14,000 tonnes of high-quality turbot and sole annually.
The site will also house a new research and development laboratory designed to meet the expanding needs of Stolt Sea Farm’s customers. This upgraded lab will enhance logistics for sample reception and expand capabilities in food safety, supporting continuous innovation and excellence in products and services.
