The move will in particular enable the Icelandic pelagic fleet and processors to benefit from the XyRex range of fish product enhancement treatments, including XyRex P3 Plus that has been especially developed for use in Refrigerated Seawater Tanks.
It works by dramatically reducing the counts of spoilage bacteria that degrade fish quality, resulting in the landing of better quality and higher priced mackerel and herring. It is also used with great success by many processors once the fish has been landed.
The portfolio of XyRex products now available from SF Seafresh EFH also includes XyRex Ice-Active, which enhances the preservation properties of ice by slowing down bacterial growth and XyRex U500, which controls the rapid increase of bacteria counts found in the fish belly-cavity immediately after capture and slaughter.
A spokesman for Seafresh said: "We are delighted by this new agreement with XyRex to supply their products. We are confident it will bring real benefits to the Icelandic fish industry and will form an important part of our strategy to continually improve hygiene within the fishing fleet and factory environments. Our aim is to deliver the highest quality fish that is built upon our years of experience within the industry combined with best quality equipment and products.
