Mycotoxins continue to pose a key challenge to feed and livestock producers everywhere. Ingesting contaminated feed has been proven to drastically hurt the health and performance of animals, and eventually, the bottom-line in animal farming.
Addressing this common scourge of the livestock industry, Biomin launched the Mycotoxin Channel on YouTube in August 2009. The Channel has proven to be a hit, garnering more than 14,000 visits to date despite its niche subject by successfully meeting the need for information on mycotoxin issues in an easily accessible and well presented media format.
The Mycotoxin Channel [click here] features more than 70 videos on a wide range of mycotoxin-related issues pertaining to analysis, risk management, symptoms and species-specific health questions for the swine, poultry and ruminant sectors. An area of growing interest is also that of human health-related issues, underscoring the close association between feed and food safety.
To cater to the growing demand for quality information on mycotoxins, a new video is added each week. So far, the Channel has featured 12 renowned experts from independent and commercial sectors, who each address a specific mycotoxin-related question in a bite-sized, webinar format of no more than one minute and 30 seconds. Target viewers include nutritionists, consultants, integrators, veterinarians, students, professors, journalists and other specialists seeking quality information related to mycotoxins.
Responding to the positive reception, Biomin plans to grow the Mycotoxin Channel by continuing to add a new video each week. Upcoming experts will also be invited to present their knowledge on a range of mycotoxin risk management and health issues. Tapping on input from all over the world, these experts hail from the USA, Canada, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Netherlands, Nigeria and Malaysia, adding relevance to the Channel's global viewers.
Jürgen Dreissker, Project Manager for the Mycotoxin Channel, said: "Mycotoxins are a major issue in the livestock and feed industry and we want this channel to not just convey what Biomin is doing, but to provide unbiased, scientific and objective information on mycotoxin control."
Mycotoxin control is a key product segment for Biomin which offers a patented modular system that works to deactivate mycotoxins in the presence of contaminated feed. In addition to the Mycotoxin Channel on YouTube, Biomin also has the dedicated website www.mycotoxins.info which provides a concise and easy-to-understand overview of mycotoxins through the entire supply chain.
