"Fish 2.0 is a business competition that connects sustainable fisheries and aquaculture businesses with potential investors," said Monica Jain, Fish 2.0 Founder.
"We've been working with both investors and seafood entrepreneurs through Manta Consulting for over 20 years. We kept hearing from investors that they were interested, but they weren't seeing a enough viable investments in the field. At the same time, we knew there were lots of emerging businesses out there - they just didn't have the training, communication skills or connections to attract the right investors. We started Fish 2.0 to bridge this gap."
"Fish 2.0 gives seafood entrepreneurs, including those doing aquaculture, a chance to show investors that there are both financial gains to be made in these markets and opportunities to build businesses that contribute to food security, ocean sustainability, and thriving local communities," said Ms Jain.
This year's contestants are in with a chance of winning a training day session with Fish Vet Group, the world’s largest dedicated aquaculture health provider with a footprint on three continents.
The one day training session in aquatic health management will be held at the FVG labs in Portland, Maine, US, and will address:
- Principles of fish welfare and understanding when issues exist
- Aquatic health and biosecurity program development
- Sample collection for common diagnostic assays
The Fish Vet Group Prize will be awarded to a North American Aquaculture Producer who is a finalist or runner up of the Fish 2.0. competition whose operations can benefit from this training and services in terms of improving their business and potential to create positive impacts.
