Management plans are part of public policies promoted by the Government, through the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (CONAPESCA), to induce conservation, protection and responsible use of resources.
The Fisheries Management Plan also generates direct benefits for fishermen and their families, by ensuring a sustainable source of employment.
In the Official Gazette today the Fishery Management Plan for the species of red shrimp (Farfantepenaeus brasiliensis) and brown rock shrimp (Sicyonia brevirostris) was published.
The federal document noted that the central purpose of this management plan is to achieve a level of exploitation within the capacity of the resource.
Although the two species have the same importance, the red shrimp can double the commercial value of rock shrimp.
Moreover, the DOF also published the Fishery Management Plan for Turbinella angulata, Busycon perversum, Pleuroploca gigantea, Fasciolaria Lens, Strombus costatus, Strombus pugilis, Melongena melongena and melogena corona bispinosa from the coast of the state of Campeche.
This fishery takes place from 15 March to 14 July, and involved 341 ships and over 2700 fishermen.
The current regulation includes minimum catch size of three of the eight commercial species and a period of closure for all species from 1 January to 14 March and from 16 July to 31 December.
The DOF also unveiled the Fishery Management Plan for snook (Centropomus undecimalis) Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea.
The bass is one of the artisanal fisheries of greatest importance and tradition in the Gulf of Mexico, due to its quality and flavor.
