Currently the hake fleet operates 30 vessels, which were evaluated previously by INP technicians from the health point of view, for a diagnosis on the implementation of good practices in handling fish on board.
The INP is the competent authority in Ecuador for the sanitary control of fishery and aquaculture products for export. Through the process of Quality Assurance Fisheries, Aquaculture and Environment (ACPAA) the whole production chain is verified and health certificates can be issued that provide assurances of safety to all fishing and aquaculture products.
The hake fishery resource in Ecuador began after the close of shrimp trawling. The INP, with the support of the Vice Ministry of Aquaculture and Fisheries, was part of the working group that conducted the study of the resource sector to provide alternative fishing.
At present, hake is exported to Europe, America, Asia, Russia, Africa and other markets. In 2013 revenues from exports were around $18 million, according to figures from the Central Bank of Ecuador.
The meeting will take place in the auditorium "Mosquera Luis Arriaga" INP, from 7 to 11 April from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm.
Following the training INP technicians are to perform the checks on boats, in order to check the implementation of the topics covered in the workshops.
