Experimental Hake Fishing Boat Showed Good Results

ECUADOR - Following the release of a boat from the port of Manta to test new fishing equipment for hake, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has announced the trial was a success.

Nathaly Estefania is one of the 12 boats participating in the proposed experimental fishing for hake.

Mendoza Molke Control Director of Fisheries, said the boat on this first trip fulfilled the requirements established in the pilot project.

As well as having the proper net gear that is 6 inches in mesh size of the net wings, 4-inch quarter in the mid-body and three in the cod or purse.

Zambrano Damazo, operator of the vessel, said: "Hake is a highly consumed in several countries including Colombia, Venezuela, Russia among others and this fish is very easy to digest, as it is composed of a lot of water. It has no carbohydrates and is a good source of protein."

The tests will culminate on 28 February.
