The winner will go on an expenses paid trip to the internationally acclaimed Elanco Animal Health Centre of Excellence for Research and Development in Aquaculture, based in Prince Edward Island, Canada, during the summer of 2016.
Whilst in Canada, the student will meet leading Elanco scientists, and have the opportunity to learn about fish vaccines, novel pharmaceutical developments and revolutionary new technologies in fish health.
To enter the competition, applicants must submit a precis/summary (no more than 200 words) of their presentation on their current work, along with their full name, address and contact details.
Six successful applicants will then be invited to the Gala Dinner of the Aquaculture UK conference, being held 25-26 May 2016 in Aviemore, Scotland. They will also receive a complimentary stay at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort for the duration of the conference, which is organised by 5m Publishing, TheFishSite.com.
Here the applicants will give a 30 minute presentation of their work and the winner will be chosen and announced on the evening.
"Elanco has a rich history of aquaculture innovation and we are proud to extend our research in the field of aquaculture beyond our own internal operations. We believe that encouraging young, talented scientists is pivotal to building the future of our industry," said Carlos Kuada, Global Head of the Aqua Business.
Previous winner, Marie Smedley, explained how entering the competition gave her the chance to communicate her research to a wider audience in the aquaculture domain and, through winning the award, her research has been further disseminated at a national and international level.
Encouraging others to take part, Ms Smedley commented: "The competition is an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their research to commercial stakeholders in the field of aquaculture as well as to meet fellow students in their area of research. A wide range of topics were presented at the Aquaculture UK 2014 show and I would highly encourage anyone studying in the field of aquaculture to apply."
The closing date for applications is 1 April 2016.
