New technical advisors join ASC
The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) has announced the appointment of Professor Catriona MacLeod and Doctor Heidi Alleway to its Technical Advisory Group (TAG), reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to stakeholder participation, scientific rigour and inclusive governance. Both Prof MacLeod and Dr Alleway possess extensive expertise and previous engagement with ASC’s technical standards.
“I would like to welcome both Catriona and Heidi to the organisation and thank them for their commitment. Their combined experience and insight will be a valuable addition to the TAG as our global reach expands and deepens to deliver impact,’’ said ASC chief executive officer Chris Ninnes in a press release.
Prof MacLeod, known for her work in environmental management and coastal sustainability, said, “I'm genuinely excited to be working with the ASC. Having seen the influence and impact of its standards and expectations across many of my previous roles, I’m now looking forward to contributing more directly to that work.”
Dr Alleway, whose career spans marine science, public policy and natural resource management, added, “There’s a pressing need to increase food production in a way that restores nature and supports communities – and responsibly managed aquaculture is an important piece of the puzzle. It’s a privilege to support ASC in its mission to move the farmed seafood sector towards realising its potential of sustainability and social responsibility.”
Search for New Board members
In parallel, ASC has launched a global search for two new trustees to join its Board. One position is focused on NGO or social impact expertise, while the other seeks experience in industry, branding or retail.
“By joining our Board, you’ll help guide ASC’s strategic direction and ensure we remain a trusted leader in driving environmental and social responsibility across the seafood sector,” said Ninnes.
The NGO-focused role is designed for candidates with experience in environmental or social sectors, ideally with a background in sustainability or community-based programmes. The second role targets leaders in retail, branding or marketing, particularly those aligned with ASC’s mission to promote responsible seafood. Applications for these positions will close on 19 August. Further information can be found on the ASC website.
