Currently, Vietnam with 301 aquatic enterprises is standing second in the world in terms of the number of aquatic enterprises licensed to export to EU.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development asked Nafiqad and the Department of Aquaculture in co-ordination with the Department of Fisheries Resources Exploitation and Protection to find solutions so as to supply the aquaculture and fishing area codes to meet the requirements of EU. Also, the Ministry recommended aquatic enterprises to abide by EU’s regulations because aqua-products can be rejected if they do not match the quality’s requirements.
EU is the biggest importer of Vietnam’s aquatic products which accounts for 25.4 per cent of its total fisheries export turnover. EU imported 350,000 tonnes of aquatic products from Vietnam in 2008.
