The interview is part of a new series filmed by The Fish Site’s team at dsm-firmenich’s recent Global Aqua Days event in Athens and in it, Nikolik – one of the world’s most respected seafood analysts – offers insights into the performance of the shrimp, salmon and fishmeal sectors so far this year, as well as some predictions for how they are likely to fare in the coming months.
Speaking to The Fish Site’s Rob Fletcher, Nikolik’s key insights from the year to-date include a look at the reasons behind the year’s dramatic drop in salmon prices; thoughts on whether the shrimp sector’s slight price recovery can continue in the face of pressures such as Trump’s tariffs; and his belief that farmers can look forward to 12 months of relatively affordable fishmeal.
In the coming weeks the series will include interviews with Siri Johnsen, MD of GO Johnsen, discussing the crucial role of astaxanthin in aquafeeds; Luis Fernando Auranguren, a leading figure in shrimp health and production, focusing on the health challenges facing shrimp farmers in Latin America; Brett Glencross, technical director of IFFO, comparing a range of aquafeed ingredients; John Costatino, COO of Manolin, focusing on technological innovations; as well as dsm-firmenich’s Corinne Bonadei, Sebastain Rider and Benedict Standen.
