The latest announcement follows the release of improved financial results for 2016 by Miadmar HDP. Last year, the company processed about 350 tonnes of fish, and its annual sales totalled some RON 7.1 million (€1.6 million). This represented an increase of about 4 per cent compared with a year earlier.
“The main factors that led to a sales increase in 2016, compared with the preceding year, were the launch of new products that were partly processed from the fish caught by our vessel in the Black Sea, and the adding of new retailers to our sales network,” Daniel Buhai, local businessman and one of the company’s co-owners told local daily Ziarul Financiar.
In 2017, the Romanian fish processor aims to increase its annual output to some 700 tonnes, and add a second shift at its plant.
The fish processor’s product range consists of smoked and frozen fish, as well as salads and other processed products. These are made from mackerel, sardines, cod, carp, sprat, pike and caviar, according to data released by Miadmar HDP.
The company says it has operated two fishing trawlers, the Medusa 4 and the Flamingo 4, since 2004.
Set up in 1999, Miadmar HDP is based in Tulcea, in the country’s south-eastern part, about 268 km from Bucharest.
In addition to Tulcea, Miadmar HDP says it supplies its products to retailers in the region surrounding the country’s capital Bucharest and the Constanta county, on the Romanian Black Sea shore.
“In other parts of the country, we are currently seeking distributors for our products,” the company’s management said.
