Ode has announced the approval of its seventh production site, Jonskjær, which was finalised at the end of 2024 and is set to be located in Norway's Smøla municipality. This announcement comes in the wake of the recent opening of the company's sixth farm site at the end of last year.

Ola Kvalheim, founder and chief executive of Ode expressed his excitement at the prospect of the new farm. "This site will allow us to grow responsibly, create new opportunities, and strengthen our ability to deliver premium cod to our customers worldwide. Starting the new year with this approval is a powerful motivation as we continue to work toward our long-term goals,” he said, in a press release.

Since its beginnings five years ago, Ode has built a fully integrated value chain for cod farming, from hatchery to consumer-packaged products. What began as a small company has developed into an operation with over 150 employees and the goal to deliver 50 million cod meals annually by the end of 2025.

"While our cod is enjoyed around the globe, it’s vital for us to highlight where it comes from. Along Norway's clean, cold coastline, our cod thrives best. By building our presence in these regions, we aim to create jobs, support local suppliers, and celebrate the unique heritage of the Norwegian coast," commented Falk Øveraas, head of public affairs at Ode.

The addition of the new Jonskjær site to Ode's rapidly developing operation marks a significant milestone for the cod-farming sector, both within Norway and across the wider aquaculture industry.
