The factory is set to produce ultra-low carbon feed and feed ingredients, providing animal farmers with an alternative protein to reduce the carbon footprint of their products. The sustainable food products enabled by this facility will be the equivalent of more than 13 million sustainable meals.
Farmers globally spend billions of dollars annually on producing shrimp, fish and chicken. Many Asian countries rely on exporting these products, particularly to regions like Europe. However, the future of this business is threatened by growing concerns over the carbon footprint of food.
The EU, for example, has discussed implementing a carbon tax that would make such exports unviable. While sustainable proteins exist, they are often too expensive for the majority of consumers. By providing farmers with an affordable, ultra-low-carbon protein for feed, Full Circle Biotechnology aims to secure their future markets and position South-East Asia as a global leader in sustainable food.
Named in THRIVE's top 18 global climate-tech startups
The announcement coincides with Full Circle Biotechnology being named the first Thai company in THRIVE's top 18 global climate-tech startups. Full Circle Biotechnology also ranked in the top three in the Food Tech category of the competition. To celebrate this achievement, the company hosted a workshop for media and investors at one of its customer's farms, Shrimpday, in Nakhon Pathom Province, Thailand.
At the event, the company’s chief executive and founder, Felix Collins, welcomed guests and presented the company's business vision. He showcased its innovative alternative insect-based protein animal feed, which is made from black soldier fly larvae. According to Full Circle Biotechnology, this breakthrough innovation is a game-changer for the aquaculture industry, as it is the first sustainable protein that is genuinely affordable for the farming sector.
“Full Circle Biotechnology was founded on the belief that the sustainable future of food can only be unlocked if it’s affordable enough to save people money. I will be in Silicon Valley for THRIVE in October, but the future of food isn’t in California; it’s not in Europe. The future of food is happening now, right here in Thailand,” said Collins, in a press release.
The company’s co-founder and head of operations, Nuttanon Boonra added that the milestone “not only highlights our innovation potential but also proves that Thai businesses can thrive on the global stage. We will continue to invest in research and technology to deliver feed formulations that meet the highest standards of quality, competitiveness, and sustainability elevating Thailand’s feed industry while creating shared value for all stakeholders.”
