Indian Government Announces Fishing Ban

INDIA - The government has imposed a ban on fishing by mechanised and motor boats between 15 April and 31 May, 2013 (47 days) for the conservation of fish resources.

Mechanised fishing vessels and motor boats found violating the ban will be fined Rs.2,500 and the catch will be seized, according to the Joint Director of Fisheries P. Koteswara Rao, reports TheHindu.

Fishermen using traditional fishing boats without an attached motor do not come under the purview of the ban.
