Increase Expected for Viet Nam's August Seafood Exports

VIET NAM - In August 2013, Vietnamese seafood exports are estimated to reach US$591 million, leading to a year-to-date value of US$4 billion, up 1.3 per cent from the compatible period of 2012, according to Viet Nam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The US continued to be the leading importer of Vietnam seafood products, representing a proportion of 20.9 per cent. Between January and July 2013, exports to the US had a worth of US$712.31 million, increasing by 6.1 per cent, reports VASEP.

Compared to 2012, shipments to China, Canada and Thailand also reported considerable growth of 52.7 per cent, 6.8 per cent and 9.6 per cent respectively. In contrast, some markets saw drop in seafood purchase from Viet Nam like Japan (-1 per cent), South Korea (-19.1 per cent) and Spain (-11.5 per cent).

In August, imports of fishery products into Viet Nam are expected to total US$66 million. Viet Nam mainly bought fishery products from India (14.2 per cent) and Taiwan (11.4 per cent).
