This initiative seeks to establish a consultative body that will actively contribute to the sector's energy transition and provide advisory input on the development of an energy transition roadmap.
Formation of the ETP support group
The ETP Support Group is expected to comprise 10 coordinators, each representing a key stakeholder category within the industry. The categories include:
- Small-Scale Coastal Fisheries (SSCF)
- Large-Scale Fisheries (LSF)
- Distant Water Fisheries (DWF)
- Inland Aquaculture
- Offshore Aquaculture
- Ports
- Processing Industry
- Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs)
- Fishing Shipbuilding Industry
- Research Organisations and Academia
Each coordinator will be tasked with engaging their respective sectors, gathering input, coordinating discussions, and disseminating information relevant to the ETP's objectives.
Application requirements
Candidates interested in serving as coordinators must express their interest by 23 September 2024. Eligibility criteria include: Active involvement in one of the listed stakeholder categories
- Representation at the national or EU level
- Availability for participation in ETP activities
- A commitment to stakeholder representation
- Strong communication skills
Applicants must register as members of the ETP if they have not already done so.
Role and responsibilities
The ETP Support Group will play a crucial role in shaping the energy transition within EU fisheries and aquaculture. Key responsibilities include:
- Engagement and input collection: Coordinators will encourage participation from stakeholders in their segment and gather detailed inputs to inform ETP activities through meetings and working groups.
- Advisory function: The group will advise on the development of the Energy Transition roadmap by providing guidance and recommendations.
- Communication and best practices: Coordinators will promote the exchange of information and best practices among stakeholders.
- Support and coordination: The group will assist the European Commission in aligning with the ETP and contribute to the future Energy Transition roadmap.
The work will focus on thematic areas such as skills development, research and innovation, financing, regulatory frameworks, and setting ambitious goals for the energy transition. Coordinators will also produce concept papers on these themes to guide discussions in workshops and working groups.
Selection process
The selection process for the ETP Support Group will be carried out by the contractor for the Energy Transition Partnership Assistance Mechanism, which will begin operations in September 2024. The aim is to ensure the group is inclusive, accurately represents the main stakeholder categories, and maintains a balanced representation of sectors and Sea Basins.
