Following the success of its inaugural edition in 2023, BSFCON – the world’s only international conference dedicated exclusively to the black soldier fly (BSF) – is set to return from 8 to 10 September in Cambridge, United Kingdom. The event brings together researchers, industry leaders, investors and policymakers working at the intersection of insect-based technology and sustainable development.
Jointly organised by the University of Cambridge, Better Origin, FreezeM and Innovafeed, the conference aims to provide a comprehensive view of developments in BSF science and commercialisation. With applications spanning animal feed, fuels, biofertilisers and waste management, BSFCON seeks to foster cross-sector dialogue on the role of BSF in advancing sustainable systems.
The 2025 edition will include expert-led sessions covering topics such as physiology, genetics, nutrition, feedstocks, behaviour and automation. Attendees can also expect keynote presentations from prominent figures in academia and industry, alongside poster sessions and interactive workshops designed to promote collaboration.
New for 2025 is ‘’Industry Day’’
This full-day session will explore commercial use cases, market trends, investment insights, and strategies for positioning insect products as sustainable solutions. It will also feature showcases of near-future innovations, discussions on overcoming regulatory and consumer challenges.
Organisers describe BSFCON as a platform to accelerate the role of insects in addressing climate and resource pressures. While interest in the BSF has grown significantly in recent years, challenges remain in scaling production, harmonising regulatory frameworks and building public awareness.
By bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders, BSFCON 2025 aims to advance practical solutions and encourage continued innovation across the value chain.
The event underscores the growing recognition of BSF not just as a niche interest, but as a scalable and versatile contributor to global sustainability goals.
