Waste consisting of old material, pallets, mesh and oyster bags were cleared from piers and landing areas around Clew Bay.
The primary aim of CLAMS is to ensure that the development of the Irish aquaculture industry is in keeping with the principles of Single Bay Management. The process is a nationwide initiative and CLAMS groups have been set up all along the Irish coast with the support of BIM and the Marine Institute.
Aquaculture is an important industry in Clew Bay, involving the farming of finfish and shellfish species such as organic Atlantic salmon and in the past sea reared rainbow trout, native oysters, pacific oysters, mussels and scallops. Maintaining a tidy and clean foreshore has become a priority for all aquaculture producers along the coast. The commitment and respect for their pristine working environment is apparent from this organised clean up in Clew Bay.

IRELAND - Aquaculture producers in Clew Bay came together recently under the Coordinated Local Aquaculture Management Systems (CLAMS) to organise a pier clean up in conjunction with Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), the Seafood Development Agency.
