Xuyi Utilises Unique Lobster Breeding Method

CHINA - With Xuyi lobsters becoming more popular worldwide, its demand has greatly increased. With traditional lobster aquaculture styles not able to meet demands, Xuyi has developed a unique "breeding net".

This breeding net has a simple structure and food rations can be exactly controlled whereas the traditional style has faults. With Xuyi's breeding net, not only can lobsters be easily dredged, but production is also greatly improved.

Xuyi has established lobster breeding demonstration areas along Douhu, Hongze Lake, and Mao'er Lake, and five high-efficiency ecological culture parks including Manjianghong, Renhe, Dalianhu.

There are now also three wholesale markets, producing about 60,000 tons of Xuyi Lobster annually. However, due to the nature of lobster farming, feeding the right amount of bait is difficult; class size is also uncontrollable, making it hard to maximize lobster production.

Although some large-scale, industrial, and professional lobster farms can guarantee a certain yield, the vast majority of lobster farmers have to deal with fluctuated productions.

In the first half of 2011, 80,000 tons of Xuyi Lobster was sold but production still has not been able to meet increasing demands. In the biggest Xuyi market, lobster sales have significantly increased, reaching 40,000 tons compared to 30,000 tons last year.

This year the price of the lobster has risen from 24/kg to 48/kg but the supply has been unable to meet demands.

To maximize lobster production, Xuyi Lobster has taken advantage of the "cavern lobster breeding net" style because it has achieved great initial results.
