Scheduled for 24-27 June at the Speke Resort Munyonyo in Entebbe, the conference will bring together 400 presenters and hundreds more delegates under the theme Aquaculture on the rise.
The full programme is now live on the World Aquaculture Society (WAS) website, with a full agenda also accessible via the WAS meetings assistant app and the official programme book.
WA25 Uganda promises a rich mix of expert-led sessions, workshops, and exhibitions, drawing in development partners, private companies, researchers, and farmers alike. Major regional and global stakeholders will be involved in hosting workshops and seminars, including the African Union (AUDA-NEPAD and AU-IBAR), FAO, GIZ, World Bank and WISHH, alongside aquaculture companies like Aller Aqua, Huvepharma, and Skretting.
Dr. Melba Reantaso – former FAO team leader, Fisheries and Aquaculture Division – will give a keynote address that focuses on insights and perspectives on what Africa needs to do to improve its aquatic biosecurity management through risk-based, collaborative and progressive approaches to safeguard human health, the environment and national economies in the face of a rapidly changing world.
Aquaculture Africa Conferences have become strategic meeting hubs for developmental agencies, NGOs and institutions in Africa – where they can hold plenary talks, special meetings, seminars, strategic forums and satellite workshops of African and global aquaculture projects and activities. In addition, training courses on aquaponics, aquaculture management, guidelines on sustainable aquaculture and other sessions are expected to feature at WA25 Uganda.
A special programme dedicated for students has been organised to enhance student participation and networking. This includes a special student reception, student presentations, student contests, career mentorship sessions and networking opportunities among other activities.
WA25 Uganda will also offer dedicated farmers sessions targeting aquaculture farmers especially micro, small and medium enterprises. The sessions will focus on strategic linkages with stakeholders and provide an opportunity for networking, idea exchange and to learn about novel technologies and practices.
Tours are being organised to some of the aquaculture facilities along the shorelines of Lake Victoria on 24 and 28 June. These include visits to aquafeeds facilities, R&D Centres and some fish farms. The international exhibition and trade show will undoubtedly be a major attraction where nearly 100 international organizations will present their latest technologies, products and services.
WA25 is hosted by the government of the Republic of Uganda – through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries. The EU-funded TRUEFISH Project, overseen by the Lake Victoria Fisheries Organization, is the lead sponsor for the event.
