Small Pelagic Fishing Season Closing

ECUADOR - The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries (MAGAP) has announced closed seasons for fishing of small pelagic fish from 1 to 31 March and from 1 to 30 September every year.

This action will is to control the catch of small pelagic fish, in order to guarantee employment, food and environmental preservation.

The Director of Fisheries Management, Mendoza Molke Avila, reported that from 1 - 30 September this year, as a control measure, all purse seine fleets of small pelagic will remain in port.

The closures include the prohibition set capture, transport, processing and marketing of small pelagic species.

Those who fail to comply with the provisions of this ban will be punished according to the provisions of the Fisheries Act and Fisheries Development.
