The survey aims to gather opinions and insight to help craft a roadmap for how to attract more women into the seafood industry.
It is open to any women working at any level in the seafood, commercial fishing, aquaculture and seafood processing industries, as well as seafood purchasing executives at retail and foodservice.
IntraFish launched its groundbreaking "Women in Seafood" series in 2015, offering the most comprehensive overview of key obstacles facing women in the seafood workforce, and providing insight into the industry's most successful women.
Seafish hopes to use the survey to collect data it can use to help attract more women into the UK seafood sector, and will seek out respondents from across the country.
“Gender parity is an issue being discussed on a global scale, both within our industry and in a wider context. In the five years following The Davies Review significant progress has been made with the number of women on FTSE 100 boards more than doubling to 26.1 per cent. We’re moving in the right direction, but what’s it going to take to deliver real progress? We know where we want to be – so, what’s stopping us?” explains Seafish Corporate Relations Director, Mel Groundsell.
“It’s with this in mind, we are launching this survey in partnership with IntraFish in support of International Women’s Day ‘Be Bold For Change’ campaign. We’re asking our industry ‘what’s stopping you?’. When we can understand that, we can move the discussion forward with some practical steps.”
IntraFish and Seafish will use the insights to help industry unlock and unleash the huge potential for women in the seafood workforce, with a particular emphasis on helping women move into managerial roles in the sector.
"Our work on the 'Women in Seafood' series revealed that while women faced some challenges in the male-dominated industry, they were extremely inspired by their jobs, and eager to bring more women to join the industry," said IntraFish Editor Elisabeth Fischer.
"We're eager to follow up on that work, and to continue to encourage more women to explore the seafood industry as a dynamic and rewarding career."
IntraFish and Seafish will announce the results of their research at the IntraFish Seafood Leadership event during the Brussels Seafood Show in April.
