Seafood Exports Up in November

NORWAY - The value of Norwegian seafood exports in November totalled NOK 5.6 billion. This is an increase of NOK 479 million or nine per cent compared to November last year. This year to date the value of Norwegian seafood exports totals NOK 47.3 billion, down by NOK 1.5 billion or three per cent from the same period last year, according to the latest figures from the Norwegian Seafood Council.

The growth we have seen in seafood exports in November is largely attributable to growth in the value of Norwegian Salmon exports, says Egil Ove Sundheim, director of market information with the Norwegian Seafood Council.

Growth trend in Norwegian Salmon exports continues

The value of Norwegian Salmon exports in November totalled NOK 3 billion. This is an increase of NOK 472 million or 19 per cent compared to November last year. This year to date the value of Norwegian Salmon exports totals NOK 26.8 billion, an increase of NOK 346 million compared to the same period last year.

The average price for fresh whole Norwegian Salmon in November was NOK 27.12 per kg, compared to NOK 25.09 per kg in November 2011. As in the previous month, France and Russia were the biggest importers of Norwegian Salmon.

The value of exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout in November totalled NOK 177 million, an increase of NOK 8 million or five per cent compared to the same month last year. This year to date the value of exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout totals NOK 1.5 billion, an increase of NOK 271 million compared to the same period in 2011. The biggest importers of Norwegian Fjord Trout are Russia and Japan.

Exports of herring down, mackerel up

The value of exports of Norwegian Herring in November totalled NOK 659 million, a decline of NOK 13 million or two per cent compared to November last year. This year to date the value of exports of Norwegian Herring totals NOK 3.7 billion, down by NOK 76 million or two per cent. Russia and Germany are the biggest markets for Norwegian Herring.

In November, exports of mackerel from Norway increased in value by NOK 65 million to a total of NOK 433 million. For the year to date, exports of mackerel are down by NOK 584 million to a total of NOK 2.9 billion compared to the same period last year. Japan and China are the biggest markets for mackerel exports from Norway.

Exports of clipfish up, salted fish down

Exports of clipfish increased in value in November by NOK 58 million to a total of NOK 429 million. This year to date the value of clipfish exports totals NOK 3.4 billion, a decline of NOK 59 million compared to the same period last year.

The value of exports of salted fish including fillets in November totalled NOK 39 million, down by NOK 10 million compared to November last year. This year to date the value of exports of salted fish including fillets totals NOK 805 million, a decline of NOK 192 million compared to the same period last year.

Exports of fresh and frozen Norwegian Cod up in value

Exports of fresh Norwegian Cod including fillets from fishery were up in value by NOK 13 million in November to a total of NOK 69 million. Exports of frozen Norwegian Cod including fillets also showed an increase in November, up by NOK 56 million to a total of NOK 189 million.
