RUSSIA - The Russian veterinary agency Rosselkhoznador has banned imports of fish and fish products from fish-producing plants in China, Indonesia and Denmark.

The Russian authorities have blocked the imports from two plants in China and one each in Denmark and Indonesia.

The ban follows the detection of banned or harmful substances in the fish products during monitoring of imports.

The move follows earlier bans on products from other plants in China and Denmark as well as Iceland and Viet Nam.

Among the banned substances and contaminants were mercury in shrimps and fish and banned pathogens and coliforms in shrimp.

The ban was put in place on 28 January.
