Norwegian Seafood Exports Stable

NORWAY - The value of Norwegian seafood exports in October totaled NOK 5.5 billion. This is on a par with October last year. Norwegian Salmon enjoyed strong exports in October, up by 21 per cent compared to the same month last year. This year to date the value of Norwegian seafood exports totals NOK 41.7 billion, down by NOK 1.9 billion or four per cent from the same period last year, according to the latest figures from the Norwegian Seafood Council.

Norwegian seafood exports in October were at the same level as October last year, says Egil Ove Sundheim, director of market information with the Norwegian Seafood Council.Steadily more Norwegian Salmon is being consumed in European homes, and this contributes to the growth in the volume of Norwegian Salmon exports and strengthens the position of Norwegian Salmon on European dining tables.

Norwegian Salmon exports strongly up

The value of Norwegian Salmon exports in October totalled NOK 2.7 billion. This is an increase of NOK 460 million or 21 per cent compared to October last year. This year to date the value of Norwegian Salmon exports totals NOK 23.9 billion, on a par with the figures for the same period last year.

The average price for fresh whole Norwegian Salmon in October was NOK 25.74 per kg, compared to NOK 23.43 per kg in October 2011. As in the previous month, France and Russia were the biggest importers of Norwegian Salmon.

The value of exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout in October totalled NOK 161 million, an impressive increase of NOK 50 million or 45 per cent compared to the same month last year. This year to date the value of exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout totals NOK 1.4 billion, an increase in value of NOK 265 million compared to the same period in 2011. The biggest importers of Norwegian Fjord Trout are Russia and Japan.

Exports of herring and mackerel down

The value of exports of Norwegian Herring in October totalled NOK 340 million, down by NOK 148 million or 30 per cent compared to October last year. This year to date the value of exports of Norwegian Herring total NOK 3.1 billion. This is a decline of NOK 54 million or two per cent. Russia and Germany are the biggest markets for Norwegian Herring.

Exports of mackerel fell in value in October by NOK 261 million to a total of NOK 929 million. For the year to date, exports of mackerel from Norway are down by NOK 636 million to a total of NOK 2.4 billion compared to the same period last year. Japan and China are the biggest markets for mackerel exports from Norway.

Exports of clipfish up, salted fish down

Exports of clipfish increased in value in October by NOK 65 million to a total of NOK 545 million compared to October 2011. This year to date the value of clipfish exports totals NOK 2.9 billion, a decline of NOK 113 million.

The value of exports of salted fish including fillets in October totalled NOK 38 million, down by NOK 13 million compared to October last year. This year to date the value of exports of salted fish including fillets totals NOK 769 million, a decline of NOK 179 million compared to the same period last year.

Exports of clipfish and salted fish have been marked by falling prices.

Exports of fresh and frozen Norwegian Cod down in value

Exports of fresh Norwegian Cod including fillets from fishery fell in value in October by NOK 10 million to a total of NOK 39 million. Exports of frozen Norwegian Cod including fillets in October also fell in value, down by NOK 13 million to a total of NOK 108 million.
