The meeting proposed to conduct a review of the quota allocation percentages established during previous terms, under various ministerial orders.
Highlights concerning the criteria are for the allocation and management of the mackerel quota and the percentage share of fishing opportunities for whiting, megrim and lobster between the different types of fishing in ICES divisions VIIIc, comprising from Cape Finisterre to the east, and IXa, from Cape Finisterre to the south.
The review also affects the percentage share of fishing opportunities for mackerel and monkfish in the same areas, and the management plan for trawl vessels from Northwestern Cantabrian national cauldron.
In addition, management measures will be established to facilitate the uptake of quotas evenly throughout the year, allowing the industry to use as they see fit for their interests.
This meeting is a first step in the regulation of different fisheries management activities by vessels included in the census of Northwestern Cantabrian fishing grounds.
The General Secretariat of Fisheries will continue contacts with the representatives of fishermen and the regional administrations in order to achieve the maximum consensus and gain a sustainable fishery management, given the limited quota available to Spain. The process was based on transparent information known to the industry.
