Manta to Host Next Committee on Fisheries of the South Pacific Meeting

ECUADOR - At the meeting of the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Committee in New Zealand, the Ecuadorian delegation expressed its willingness to cooperate with the convention in handling information on mackerel fishing in the country.

William Moran, vice minister of Aquaculture and Fisheries announced that through this collaboration, Manta will host next year's meeting of the Committee on Fisheries of the South Pacific.

At the meeting from 28 January to 1 February 2013, the Deputy Minister of Aquaculture and Fisheries was chosen by consensus as the Regional Chairman of fishing in the East South Pacific, bringing together countries like Chile, Peru and Colombia.

The Ecuadorian delegation was accompanied by the representative of the Foreign Ministry, Carlos Velastegui, Technical Secretary Mar, Jos Centanaro and Ramon Montano, Director of Policy and Planning of the Undersecretariat of Fisheries Resources.

The meeting also outlined strategies to avoid affecting local fishermen and marine ecosystems.
