To this end the Secretariat General of Fisheries will implement the necessary mechanisms to obtain additional quota for mackerel this year through: trade in other Member States, in particular to Portugal; flexibility between areas IX and VIII C.

Thus, the mackerel fishery will reopen on Tuesday 10 July to exhaust the additional fishing opportunities available to the sector.

At the meeting, which examined mechanisms for improving the management of the fleet, the Secretary General said he is committed to maintaining maximum transparency in the landings data that are already being transmitted to the guilds regularly.

Both the industry and the General Secretariat reaffirmed their intention to reduce the minimum delays in recording data and to advance the implementation of an electronic newspaper.
