Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Raul Súnico, met with the various leaders of artisanal fishermen in Caleta Coquimbo to discuss the recovery of the sector.
"We are working in the field, with teams of professionals from the Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture and the National Fisheries and Aquaculture, to determine the main actions needed to restore the productive capacity of the fishermen in the Coquimbo Region," Mr Súnico said.
According to preliminary figures, the earthquake and tsunami that hit the north of Chile on the 16 September caused damage in 21 fishing villages and destroyed 137 boats.
Mr Súnico also toured Caleta Coquimbo and met with small and medium processing plants, mainly for cuttlefish, to pledge the support of the government to helping them recover.
