Ng Woei Kiat, the former Apollo Aquaculture chief executive, was accused earlier this month of accepting the bribe from Alan Koh Joon Seong, director of two engineering companies, Alric Projects and Alric MEP Engineering.
The alleged bribery, which is said to have taken place in 2018, when Kiat also held a position on the Apollo Aquaculture board of directors, was supposedly exchanged in return for favourable consideration of Seong's engineering firms during Apollo's projects, according to Channel News Asia.
For his alleged acceptance of the bribe, which he used to make a down payment on a condominium, Kiat faces one charge of obtaining a bribe, and another under the Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes Act (CDSA).
Seong faces one charge for his alleged part in the offence.
In addition to the charges of bribery, Kiat also faces separate charges of corruption for his failure to declare conflicts of interest when making deals between Apollo Aquaculture and two companies of which he is alleged to have been the majority shareholder, Krisjade Trading and Ng Yong Hock Capital.
Both cases have been adjourned until 13 March, 2025. If found guilty under the CDSA, Kiat potentially faces a severe sentence of up to 10 years in prison, along with $374,031 in fines.
