According to the Food Safety Authority levels of sea lice in fish farms are far lower than last Autumn levels.
"This shows that farmers have done a good job and that coordination is starting to pay off," said the Minister. "It is important to continue the good work in 2012."
Experience from previous years shows that coordinated health programmes (treatment plans) are an important measure to reduce lice pressure on migrating salmon smolts. All coastal salmon farms will be required to carry out coordinated treatment programmes before wild salmon smolts leave rivers. The threshold is set to 0.1 live per fish.
