Disease Caused Shrimp Production Decline in 2012

VIET NAM - The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has reported that about 100.700ha of brackish water shrimp was damaged in 2012 due to disease.

Liver necrosis syndrome of acute pancreatitis (AHPNS), white spot and yellow head were believed to cause the huge economic losses and to affect the quantity and value of exports, reports VASEP.

Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Ca Mau were noted as the most affected provinces.

Compared to 2011, shrimp farming area increased by 0.2 per cent but output fell by 3.9 per cent due to disease.
