Chinese Product Prices Fall Slightly

CHINA - The prices of major farm products fell slightly last week following a market survey of prices in 36 large and medium-sized cities carried out by the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM).

Last week, the average wholesale price of 18 vegetables went down by 0.3 per cent compared to the previous week, with eggplant, pepper and white gourd down 5.5 per cent, 4.9 per cent and 4 per cent respectively week on week.

The prices of meat saw small fluctuations, with the price of pork down 0.7 per cent from the previous week, the prices of beef and mutton remaining unchanged.

The retail prices of poultry and eggs were stable, with the price of chicken remaining the same and the price of eggs down 0.2 per cent compared to the previous week.

The average wholesale price of aquatic products fell by just 0.1 per cent, with the prices of crucian, small hairtail and big hairtail down 1.2 per cent, 0.6 per cent and 0.4 per cent respectively.

The retail prices of edible oils saw a slight decrease, with the prices of rapeseed oil and soybean oil down 0.3 per cent and 0.1 per cent respectively and the price of peanut oil up 0.2 per cent.

The retail prices of grain were stable, with the price of rice and flour remaining the same as that of the previous week.
