Three seafood ready meals on offer in the Iceland – a UK supermarket chain – have undergone a significant 15 percent sales lift following their relaunch with the addition of certification labels to their packaging.

These three products, which contain ASC certified clams and king prawns, are the only seafood ready meals in the UK currently available which carry both labels – a factor which may contribute to the rapid increase in their popularity with consumers. Additionally, the sales boost comes at the end of Sustainable Seafood September – the MSC’s month-long campaign to encourage more people to eat sustainable seafood.

“As we come towards the end of Sustainable Seafood September, it’s incredibly exciting to see retailers like Iceland leading the way in transforming the seafood market. Their commitment to offering MSC and ASC co-labelled products highlights the growing availability of sustainable options for consumers,” said Loren Hiller, MSC UK and Ireland commercial manager, in a press release.

“We will continue working with Iceland to increase consumer awareness on environmental and social responsibility and we look forward to collaborating further,” added Maud van den Haspel, ASC UK and Benelux general manager.
